Case Study - LabVIEW based OPC compliant Laser Control system
Brief
To create a LabVIEW version of a Visual Basic 6 program, used for setting and reading parameters on a laser controller unit via over 100 RS-232 commands.
The control routine needed to be re-written in LabVIEW as the client required OPC server capability, and LabVIEW has this built into versions 8 and above.Challenges
The project required a massive RS232 driver to be compiled containing over 100 functions each having both a set and reset mode. Austin Consultants built this driver into 1 compact VI via our re-usable, scalable driver architecture, with automatic error handling and logging to file included.
Solution
Austin Consultants Engineers built a simple Tab-based front panel to mimic the existing Visual Basic program, and a single loop, scalable and maintainable event-driven block diagram conforming to National Instruments coding guidelines for Certified LabVIEW Architects. The project was completed within 3 weeks of initial contact.
