Following on from our previous blog post, ‘Be proactive about documentation‘, you can also add documentation to an actual SubVI that you have created.

Creating this documentation can make it easier for yourself or a colleague to recognise what that SubVI is doing without needing to investigate it.

To add a SubVI description, navigate to the VI properties window by either selecting File>VI Properties or selecting CTRL+I whilst on your SubVI.

The VI properties window allows the user to set certain properties for the SubVI such as the VI Description. From the Category drop-down at the top of the screen, select Documentation to show the above screen. Information entered into the VI Description window will appear when hovering over the SubVI when Context Help is open. Select OK to confirm the new description.
